# Navigating Nexalytica: Sidebar, Tabs, and Shortcuts

> Learn how to move around Nexalytica using the sidebar, resource tabs, Command Palette, organisation switcher, and notification bell.

Nexalytica is built around a persistent left sidebar, a multi-tab workspace in the main area, and a fast Command Palette — so you can jump between chats, dashboards, data sources, and settings without losing context. This guide explains every navigation surface and its keyboard shortcuts.

***

## Left Sidebar

The sidebar runs along the left edge of the app at all times. It is divided into two zones.

### Top Zone — Contextual Area

The top zone changes to reflect wherever you are in the app. It displays the items belonging to your current section — for example, your list of chats when you are in Chats, or your saved dashboards when you are in Dashboards. It also contains:

* A **search box** to filter items in the current section quickly.
* A **Create** button to add a new item of the current type. The button label matches the area you are in: **New Chat** in Chats, **New Dashboard** in Dashboards, **Add Source** in Data Sources, **New Agent** in Agent Foundry, and **New Session** in Work Bench.

### Bottom Zone — Fixed Navigation

The bottom zone never changes. It holds the primary navigation links for the entire platform:

| Item               | Status      |
| ------------------ | ----------- |
| Chats              | Available   |
| Dashboards         | Available   |
| Data Sources       | Available   |
| Agent Foundry      | Available   |
| Work Bench         | Available   |
| Notebook           | Coming Soon |
| Data Pipelines     | Coming Soon |
| MCP & Integrations | Coming Soon |

<Tip>
  Click the **Nexalytica logo** at the top of the sidebar at any time to return to the Chats home screen.
</Tip>

### Collapsing the Sidebar

Click the **collapse toggle** (the arrow icon at the sidebar edge) to shrink the sidebar down to an icon-only rail. This gives your workspace more horizontal space. When the sidebar is collapsed, hovering over any icon shows its name as a tooltip. Click the toggle again to expand the sidebar back to full width.

## Resource Tabs

Every resource you open — a chat, a dashboard, a data source — appears as a tab across the top of the main content area. Tabs let you keep multiple resources open at the same time and switch between them instantly. Tabs stay open as you move between different areas of the app.

### Opening and Closing Tabs

Click any item in the sidebar to open it as a tab. To open a resource in a **background tab** without switching to it immediately, **middle-click** the row, or hold **Cmd** (macOS) / **Ctrl** (Windows/Linux) and click. To close a tab, click the **×** on the tab itself, or press **Ctrl+W** (Windows/Linux) / **Cmd+W** (Mac) to close the active tab.

### Tab Context Menu

Right-click any tab to reveal additional close options:

| Action            | What it does                                          |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Close             | Closes the right-clicked tab                          |
| Close Others | Closes every tab except the right-clicked one |
| Close to Right | Closes all tabs to the right of the right-clicked tab |
| Close All | Closes every open tab |
| Reopen Closed Tab | Reopens the most recently closed tab |

### Reordering Tabs

Drag any tab left or right along the tab bar to reorder it. Nexalytica updates the tab order immediately.

### Tab Keyboard Shortcuts

Use these shortcuts to move between tabs without touching the mouse:

| Shortcut                                | Action                                 |
| --------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| `Ctrl+W` / `Cmd+W`                      | Close the active tab                   |
| `Ctrl+Shift+T` / `Cmd+Shift+T`          | Reopen the last closed tab             |

## Command Palette

The Command Palette is the fastest way to navigate anywhere in Nexalytica without lifting your hands from the keyboard.

Press **Ctrl+K** (Windows/Linux) or **Cmd+K** (Mac) to open it. Start typing the name of any page, resource, or action — results appear instantly. Use the **arrow keys** to move through results, then press **Enter** to navigate, or click any result directly. Press **Esc** or the same shortcut again to close the palette without navigating.

<Tip>
  Use the Command Palette to jump directly to a specific dashboard or data source by name, rather than scrolling through the sidebar.
</Tip>

## Breadcrumbs

On settings pages, a **breadcrumb trail** appears at the top of the content area showing your current position within the settings hierarchy. Click any segment in the breadcrumb to jump back to that level instantly. On wider screens, a **Search…** button (**⌘K**) also appears alongside the breadcrumb for quick navigation.

***

## Organisation Switcher

The **organisation switcher** appears in the sidebar header on settings pages, and in the account chrome on other screens. It lists all organisations associated with your account, grouped by status:

* **Active** organisations — click any to switch into it immediately.
* **Suspended** organisations — shown for visibility; access is limited until the suspension is resolved.

A **Create new organisation** option appears at the bottom of the list if you need to set up an additional org.

## User Menu

Click your avatar or name in the **sidebar footer** to open the user menu. It shows your name and your currently active department. It contains the following options:

| Option       | What it does                                         |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Profile | Edit your display name, avatar, and personal details |
| Settings | Open your personal account settings |
| Organisation | Open the current organisation's settings             |
| Department | Switch between departments you belong to (submenu) |
| Theme | Choose System, Light, or Dark display mode (submenu) |
| Sign out | End your session and return to the sign-in page |

***

## Notification Bell

The **notification bell** icon sits in the sidebar footer. A badge on the icon shows the count of unread notifications.

Click the bell to open the notification panel. Notifications are organised into five tabs:

| Tab     | Content                                                   |
| ------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| All | Every notification, regardless of type |
| Sharing | Alerts about dashboards or resources shared with you |
| Org | Organisation-level events (member changes, billing, etc.) |
| Agents | Updates from AI agents you have created or are watching |
| System  | Platform-wide announcements and maintenance notices       |

Opening the panel automatically marks all **visible** notifications as read.

## Plan Banners

Nexalytica displays banners at the top of the workspace to keep you informed about your plan status. These banners appear automatically — you do not need to check a settings page to stay aware.

<CardGroup cols={1}>
  <Card title="Trial Banner" icon="clock">
    Shown throughout your free trial. The banner is **grey** for most of the trial period, turns **amber** when 3 or fewer days remain, and switches to a **red, non-dismissible** banner on the final day. An **Upgrade now** link takes you directly to the plan picker. Upgrade to a paid plan at any time to remove it.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Past-Due Banner" icon="triangle-exclamation">
    Appears when a payment for a paid plan has failed and the invoice is overdue. This banner is **non-dismissible** and warns you that the account will become read-only if payment is not resolved, including a countdown showing how much time remains. Click **Update card** to update your payment method and clear the banner.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Read-Only Banner" icon="lock">
    Displayed when your organisation has entered read-only mode (typically after a past-due period). This banner is **non-dismissible** and all mutating actions — creating, editing, or deleting resources — are disabled. Click **Update card** to resolve the billing issue and restore full access.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Warning>
  While the read-only banner is active, you can still view and export existing data, but you cannot create or modify anything. Resolve the outstanding payment to restore full access.
</Warning>

## Settings Navigation

Navigating to any settings area replaces the sidebar's normal resource listing with a **settings navigation menu** specific to that area. To return to your workspace from settings, click the **← Back to app** link at the top of the settings sidebar.
