The left sidebar
The sidebar has two zones. The top zone is contextual: it changes to match whichever area you are in (Chats, Dashboards, Data Sources, and so on) and lists the items in that area with a search box and a create button. The bottom zone is a fixed navigation menu that is always the same, letting you jump between the main areas of the product. When you open an organisation settings page, the top zone switches from the resource listing to the settings navigation (Dashboard, Organisation, Departments, Members, AI Capabilities, Control Plane, Usage, Audit Log, Billing), and an organisation switcher appears at the very top.| Control / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Logo (“Nexalytica”, or “N” when collapsed) | Returns you to your Chats home for the current organisation. |
| Collapse toggle (sidebar trigger) | Collapses the sidebar to a thin icon-only rail, or expands it back. |
| Create button (top zone) | Creates a new item for the current area — labelled to match: New Chat, New Dashboard, Add Source, New Agent, New Session, etc. |
| Search box (top zone) | Filters the current area’s list by name as you type. |
| Item row (top zone) | Opens that item in a tab. Hovering a row reveals its row actions where supported. |
| Row middle-click / Cmd (or Ctrl) + click | Opens the item in a background tab without leaving your current view. |
| Chats | Opens the Chats area — talk to AI agents over your data. |
| Dashboards | Opens the Dashboards area — build and view dashboards. |
| Data Sources | Opens the Data Sources area — connect and manage data. |
| Agent Foundry | Opens the Agents area — build and operate AI agents. |
| Work Bench | Opens the Work Bench for ad-hoc SQL sessions. |
| Notebook | Coming Soon — listed in the menu but not yet available. |
| Data Pipelines | Coming Soon — listed in the menu but not yet available. |
| MCP & Integrations | Opens the integrations area for external connections. |
The top bar and resource tabs
Each chat, dashboard, data source, agent, or workbench session you open becomes a tab in the strip across the top of the content area. Tabs stay open as you move between areas. On organisation settings pages, a breadcrumb trail appears instead.| Control / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Tab | Click to bring that resource to the front. |
| Tab close (×) | Closes that tab. Keyboard: Ctrl/⌘ + W closes the active tab. |
| Drag a tab | Reorders tabs by dragging left or right. |
| Right-click a tab | Opens a menu with Close, Close Others, Close to the Right, Close All, and Reopen Closed Tab. |
| Reopen Closed Tab | Brings back the most recently closed tab. Keyboard: Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + T. |
| Cycle tabs | Move with Ctrl + Tab (and Ctrl + Shift + Tab), or Ctrl/⌘ + Alt + Left/Right. |
| Jump to a tab | Ctrl/⌘ + 1 through 8 jumps to that tab by position; Ctrl/⌘ + 9 jumps to the last tab. |
| Breadcrumb link (settings only) | Click any earlier segment to step back up the settings hierarchy. |
| ”Search…” button (settings, wider screens) | Opens the Command Palette. |
The Command Palette
Press Ctrl/⌘ + K anywhere in the app to open the Command Palette — a quick search box for jumping between areas without using the mouse. Press the same shortcut again, or Esc, to close it.| Control / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search field | Type to filter the list of pages and actions. |
| Result row | Select with arrow keys and Enter (or click) to navigate. |
Organisation switcher
If you belong to more than one organisation, the switcher lets you move between them.| Control / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Current organisation tile | Opens the list of your organisations, separated into active and suspended. |
| An organisation in the list | Switches to it and takes you to that organisation’s Chats. Cached data is cleared. |
| Suspended organisation | Shown but flagged as suspended; access is limited until reactivated. |
| Create new organisation | Starts the flow to create a brand-new organisation. |
User menu
The user menu lives in the sidebar footer, showing your avatar, name, and current department.| Control / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Profile | Opens your personal profile. |
| Settings | Opens the organisation settings area. |
| Organisation | Opens the organisation settings dashboard. |
| Department | Submenu to switch your active department; resources you create are scoped to whichever department is active. |
| Theme | Submenu to choose your appearance: System, Light, Dark, or any other available theme. |
| Sign out | Logs you out and ends your session. |
Notification bell
The notification bell sits beside the user menu in the sidebar footer. It shows a count of unread notifications and, when opened, lists your recent activity across five categories: All, Sharing, Org, Agents, and System.Plan banners
| Banner | When it appears | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
| Trial banner | While the organisation is on a trial. | Shows days remaining and an “Upgrade now” link. Neutral early on, amber with three or fewer days left, red and non-dismissible on the final day. |
| Past-due banner | When a payment has failed but access is still open (grace period). | Warns that access will become read-only, shows when, and offers “Update card”. Non-dismissible. |
| Read-only banner | After the grace period lapses. | Tells you the organisation is in read-only mode and offers “Update card”. Mutating actions are disabled. Non-dismissible. |
Who can use it
- Everyone: the sidebar navigation, collapse toggle, logo, tabs, Command Palette, user menu, theme, department selector, notification bell, and organisation switcher are available to all signed-in members.
- Resources you can see: the contextual listing only shows items you own or that have been shared with you.
- Department selector: only switches between departments you actually belong to.
- Settings navigation and plan-banner action links: any member can open the settings area, but billing, organisation, member, and control-plane changes are reserved for organisation owners and admins.
- Organisation switcher: appears only if you belong to more than one organisation.
